Recently my radio show was honored with an award from the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists. It’s nice to be honored by your peers. The event was at Rocky’s in Bricktown and the theme was “Cowboy Chic.”

At the event many of the guests were dressed in their finest Cowboy Chic apparel and I had a little fun with this attire as well with my “Cowboy Chic” hat and wrap.

In design, when the term “cowboy” is mentioned, many people automatically think distressed old wooden benches and cowhide rugs. But “Cowboy Chic” takes it to the next level, with rich fabrics and a little glitz and glamour.

Although I’m not originally from Oklahoma, there is something to be said for the casual elegance that a Western decor can add to a space. I recently slipped in a “Cowboy Chic” stool with chrome legs from Bruno’s Home Furnishings into my home design, and the design blended well with the other styles in the room and added a little kick to the space. The key is to stay with a similar color palette and just have fun.

If you’re a little hesitant to go all out with a “Cowboy Chic” decor in your home, just start with a small room like an office or den. Find pieces with lots of texture and casual elegance. Consider a faux antler chandelier or a distressed desk with leather and nail-head trim and you’ll be sure to turn the heads of your guests.

would you add a cowboy chic item to your design, If yes what?
